LOWER MANHATTAN NEW YORK: 50 SHADES OF DARK

Hurricane Sandy ripped through the East Coast bringing destruction of homes, buildings and private property.

New York City was also affected as most of Lower Manhattan below 40th Street was left without power.

Traffic continues even without power

Darkness ascends on to the city that never sleeps

Emergency vehicle lights in the distance

Small crowds converge on local locations serving any type of food and warm beverage

Failing economy coupled with natural disaster keeps a business owner pushing for hope

Normally a crowded cineplex

The light of automobiles in traffic offer some guidance to dark streets

The already familiar sirens in the city become more frequent

Buses experience overcrowding for those who don’t want to pay inflated taxi rides

Hundreds of Starbucks are temporarily out of business

Not every street is full of traffic and eerily remains opportune for crime

Some hope in the darkness as a regularly crowded French Cafe remains open
