The Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis is dedicated to the treatment and ultimate cure of MS.  Funding research is the core focus of the Foundation and all funds raised support our Center Without Walls program, a selected network of the nation’s top MS research centers.  This nationwide collaboration of physicians and scientists are on the cutting-edge of innovative research programs, working as a team on therapeutic approaches to eradicate MS.  In addition to combating MS through research in a clinical environment, The Nancy Davis Foundation hopes to increase awareness by educating the public about this mystifying disease.

Since 1999, the Race to Erase MS has raised $23,519,888 in contributions.  The foundation has funded MS research grants and programs totaling $18,510,805.  Their core focus is to assist in the treatment and ultimate cure of MS.  72% of all foundation spending since 1999 has been on program activities, funding cutting edge research through the foundation’s Center Without Walls, which is greater than the 65% recommended by the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance.

The evening brought in roughly $1.8 million in funds.  High priced items as an Aston Martin sold for as much as $230,000 to help raise funds for the cause.  Jack Osbourne, living with MS, was honored as well as his mother Sharon Osbourne (colon cancer survivor).

Rachel Zimmerman is not your average military brat.  In fact, she is more of a tomboy rather than a spoiled daughter of high ranking brass (that’s military lingo for officer).  She grew up playing soccer (and snowboarding, basketball, volleyball, softball, handball, the list goes on) and claims to have broken every bone in her “made for beach bikini body” as an avid striker.  Bilingual, bi-continental and bi-talented in both sports and modeling, she is another rare bird flying from continent to continent successfully living out of her suitcase while booking those jobs every model wants.

It’s difficult to conceive this “Angel” of beauty (she recently strutted down the catwalk at the Victoria’s Secret show) used to rough up the boys in her teenage years.  But then again, standing at 5’9 at just 12 years of age might suggest future Olympic Volleyball or Basketball star to some and future supermodel to others.  At least for the moment, it appears the others were right and that’s fortunate for her and her audience.  Rachel started out with Next Model Management in New York.  From there she was off to Hong Kong where fashion-business people (the ones who choose the best marketing tactics) began uploading her face onto magazine covers and bilboards around Asia.  She was an instant “hit” in the Asian market. 

I asked Rachel about friendships while traveling so much and the boys she beat up on the soccer field as well as the ones she left behind in her love life or the other playing field:

“That is funny.  I still push boys over on the soccer field, that will never change haha.  Traveling as a young kid was tuff, but at a certain point I realized that this modeling opportunity was way cooler than sitting in a classroom.  I missed my friends a lot but hey the massive amounts of amazingly crazy people you meet in the fashion industry on a daily basis made up for it.  I could never keep a boyfriend because I was never around, which I am happy about and the internet  made it easy to talk to friends.  I was and still am kind of a loner.  I enjoyed being by myself and exploring the world.  It made me who I am today and gave me a tuff skin with the industry.”

Dieting:

“I have been on a no basic carb free diet for about 1.5 years now.  I don’t eat any breads I switch them out for lettuce or other types of vegetables.  It’s easier to maintain a healthy consistent weight this way.  I also switch out any type of pastas and rice for grilled or raw veggies.  To fix my sweet tooth I love ice cream when I am home but when I am on the road I always bring dark chocolate with sea salt with me from Lindt.  A basic days menu for my household is;  Morning – I love having a huge bowl of mixed berries with two hard boiled eggs and a glass of fat free organic milk.  Lunch – I usually eat a large salad for lunch it’s light and doesn’t weigh me down or make me sluggish throughout a hard work day.  I switch almost everyday what type of salad I eat to keep it interesting.  Dinner – for dinner I have fish or grilled chicken breast with sides of organic veggies or a side of soup I prefer lentil or split pea.”

Beauty:

“On a daily basis I have a crazy routine of skin care.  I start out in the morning and night time with a daily face prep from the brand eclos following there face scrub.  I love the youth code line from the brand L’oreal.  I use the face eye serums from them and also there eye cream.  For a day to day moisturizer I really enjoy the brand Refinee with SPF 15 in it since I am so fair skinned I am always using SPF ranging from 15 to 110.  Since I travel so much also, so my skin gets very dry from harsh weather airports and altitudes.  I always carry a bottle of rose water with my to spray on my face and let air dry on my face.  It brings moisture and life back to my skin.  I would recommend everyone to carry a small bottle with them the smell and cooling of the rose water is very refreshing especially after a long day in the office “

Exercise:

“Dieting and exercise are my least favorite thing to think about!  I have been very athletic my entire life so when it’s time to kick some ass in the gym it’s game time.  I try to work out at least an hour of cardio six days a week depending on my schedule if I am traveling or not.  I don’t use any weights, just my own body weight for sit ups or crunches.  I constantly want to lean out my body and tone not gain muscle.  I do a variety of work out methods to stay in shape.  The gym gets boring after the first five minutes so I go hiking a lot, swimming (is one of my favorites), also got on a new kick of bicycling.”

Intimidated the boys, but how about the men?

“I never think I intimidate anyone since I look at myself a lot differently than people probably pursue me.  I never really talk or lead with what I do.  Man or women everyone has the outlook or our society persuaded the minds of how models are and we are all alike, supposedly.  I look at myself as a clumsy dorky lanky blonde, as others can see me in many different lights.  I have a very, very… sarcastic personality and joke about mostly everything which people may take in a wrong way but hey, there is nothing wrong with a little bit laughter in life.  Everyone is too serious these days.”

The campaign that marked and made your career?

“I actually remember that moment very clearly.  I just started modeling and a few months into the crazy adventure I booked Cesare Paciotti and was on set with 4 top models and one of the largest set crews still to this day.  The shoot was in upper NY at this beautiful estate or manor and we had our own trailers which tripped me out.  It didn’t hit me really until I received a copy of Italian Vogue and flipped though the pages of fashion and kept stumbling onto the campaign.  Friends in Europe were sending me photos of billboards and tears from magazines.  I remember being so excited and had this feeling of, ‘Oh shit…I am really modeling.’”

People for you and people against you?

“I have had a ton of people in my life who have supported me and my crazy decisions.  My parents always kept an opened mind about everything and let me do everything I dreamed.  They were really supportive about modeling but I had to get all my school work done first was the only rule really.  I have a ton of amazing and wonderful friends who have been by my side through thick and thin.  Most of my friends are in the industry and we are each others biggest cheerleaders because this industry can be tuff here and there.  Of course there are a ton of people who have the opposite feelings and don’t want to see anyone succeed.  I try not to focus or allow non supporting people into my life, it gets too exhausting.  I don’t think it’s healthy for anyone to have these people around, doesn’t allow anyone to focus and aim for there goals to full potential.”

Off the top of your head, what are some of the jobs you can think of?

“Cesare Paciotti, Italian Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Nylon, Teen Vogue, GG, Paul Mitchell, Guess, Victoria’s Secret, Missoni, Fendi, Sketchers, L.A.M.B., John John, Sharp Magazine, Halston, Nordstrom, Chanel, Indah Swimwear, Allure Magazine, Seventeen, Henry Duarte, Tommy Hilfiger, Every client in Asia, Hale Bob, Abercrombie and Fitch, Linq, Uniqlo, Shape Magazine, Party Park, Voguette, Boston Magazine, Kohl’s, Recite Calendar Miss May, Target, Escada Flirt, that is all I can think of at the moment.  For TV, I have worked on; Entourage, True Blood, Paul Mitchell and new Terrance Malik movie.”

Finally, music and travel, which cities are favored by you?

“I fu&$@;? Love music!!!!  It has kept me company for many hours on my trips and my iPod has been on most continents with me dancing through the cities.  I love oldies any where from Tom Petty, Journey, Zepplin, Queen, Johnny Cash, Foreigner, Fleetwood Mac, the list goes on for days.  I also love the cheesy European house music since I grew up with it.  I have to keep it in my roots haha.  I love walking to castings listening to Tiesto, Cash Vertigo, Benni Benassi, Bassnectar……. Many more…  This genre gives me a pep in my step and gives me a whole new confidence.  I really just love all types of music depends on the mood I am in and where I am at.  I do travel a lot and I try to make every place I go feel like home.  Since I am always on the road, I keep up my routines that I would usually do at home to keep myself comfortable.  It’s hard to be out of your element and pretend like you know where your going or what’s going on.  I honestly feel great in every city I go to because I always do my research before and take extra precaution.  Every city gives me a different feeling.  Paris, Milan, Los Angeles, New York each place is so different.”

Simona Starkute possesses those “once in life time” qualities.   No it’s not her perfect legs, perfect face, perfect skin, perfect smile, perfect hair or perfect ass (although it could be).  It is in fact the combination of her beauty, the success she has made of it, her closeness to her home and friends or family around her.  Most models (here we go with the generalization) flee from their homeland, recreating themselves (often repatrioting themselves also) in hopes of landing their big beauty deal that will give them recognition in the USA (or some prince charming).  But Simona never wanted to be a model.

“I started as a model when I was 16 years old.  It was kind of a funny story ’cause I NEVER, EVER wanted to be a model.  There was an agency did a scouting in my school and my best friend found out the details.  It was always her dream to be a model but she didn’t feel comfortable to do a casting on her own, so she asked me to go with her.  There were loads of girls – different types, different ages.  I sat down away from all of the “contestants” next to an exit door and suddenly saw the scout had pointed at me.  She asked me a few  questions, took some snapshots and gave her card to me.  I was the only girl from the entire school that she picked.  I never called her, in fact I threw her card out and forgot about everything until after several months she had begun to look for me.  She called my school.  She found my home number and had a chat with one of my parents and convinced them to speak to me about trying modeling.  After one month I flew to Milan and that was my beginning.”

So she was whisked away at an early age to the hustle and bustle of Milano where Italian stallions and spaghetti are more common than pints of beer in an Irish pub.  Sounds exciting and potentially erotic.  But it doesn’t become so edgy and heated.  She has managed to maintain her home in Lithuania.  In fact, I was a bit shocked as to why she didn’t leave for greener pastures, the closest being Moscow or London.  With her looks I would have thought permanent residency in Paris with 5 boyfriends around the world.  However, she managed to keep a level head.

“I have always lived in Lithuania.  I am born in this country, I was raised here and I am not planing to leave it in the future   I travelled around the world with my work and didn`t stay in one place more than 2-3 months.  My trips for modeling have been New York, Miami, Paris, London, Milan, South Korea, Japan, China, Spain, Germany, Greece, Turkey and many islands.  I visited a lot of islands and many beautiful places for photo shoots like Bermuda, Dominican Republic, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Sardinia, Corsica, Monaco, Maldives, Cape Town, India, Morocco and so on.”

“It’s funny ’cause in the beginning I hated modelling…. It’s very hard work and until I got what the job was all about, it wasn’t easy for me.  But I guess EVERY beginning is difficult. step by step I learned the best ways to communicate with the agencies, bookers, clients, photographers and everyone else at photo shoots and so on.  With all that new knowledge and improved dealings, I started to get loads of  bookings in beautiful places around the world and that`s how real work and real success came in to the ‘Simona Starkute’ world   Everyone started to respect me, from that moment, I understood that the job was going to make my dreams come true   And it really does almost every week, day to day Everyday I am growing in my mind through travels and dealings, learning as a model and as a person.  It is an amazing feeling.  So I do love modeling a lot, ’cause I have been able to see many different places and cultures.  This develops a person’s communication skills, learning loads of new things plus getting paid!   But ofcourse, there are things that I sometimes don’t like in this job, like waking up early in the morning, ’cause most location shoots have a call time of 4 or 5am. I also don’t like flying.  I hate airplane food and small spaces for my body and legs.  It doesn’t matter what class of ticket, First or Economy, there is never enough room.  In the past it was annoying to live in those model houses, ’cause models share rooms, bathrooms and have no privacy.  I still don’t like that loads of people in this industry are rude and so forth.  But after some time, like many things in life, people get used to all these things and take it as a part of the job. Now, I don’t pay attention to so many of these aspects.  As for men?  Thanks be to God, men never tried to pressure me to sleep with them for anything.  But I guess it depends on the girl.  Some think they will get ahead if they do I guess.  Anyway, in all of the above cases, for good and bad, I can say that modeling is my dream job! “

So how does this this RED HOT “10″ maintain her RED HOT looks and body?  It can’t just be all the carrot and orange juice she drinks.  Could be the red wine but most certainly isn’t the vodka she likes when she feels like “partying” (only Grey Goose fyi).

“I am actually a very lucky girl ’cause to keep my self in shape I don`t do any diets.  Once in a while I go to the gym, everyday I try to drink loads of water with freshly squeezed lemon juice.  I love fresh juices!  As many other people these days I eat fresh organic foods.  I also try to sleep a lot!   I just love sleeping and I think its very good for your entire body.  Sometimes, if I am not very busy I will go one day without food, just a bunch of water.  I think we all need to give a bit of a rest to our inner body.”

I am sure there are many men who wouldn’t mind her sleepwalking one bit at all….

Amber Arbucci, top model, artist, adventurer, photographer and part time adrenaline junky is all over the place (in a good way) with her day to day.  Originally from New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  She has lived in New York (owned the rock n’ roll bar named Snitch), Miami Beach, Paris, London, Italy, Israel and currently resides in Los Angeles.  Whilst living in New York she visited Africa for 1 to 3 months at time (still travels to Africa for her photography).  In Africa she discovered and became fond of the wildlife, particularly elephants.

Amber says the inspiration for the series;

“The Secret of the Elephants discusses the quiet language that exists between the families.  The eternal bond that they share and commitment to every member of their community outshines even our own humankind.  Only by a close watch can we see and learn, but never hear, the secrets of the elephants.“

Wild woman, prancing around the wilderness of Africa and dodging elephants, lions, hyena’s and probably wildebeest poop (no confirmation on that one).

“I am pitching my own show as we speak that is a combination of the Tomb Raider meets Steve Erwin. WIldlife warrior, where the girl is on missions to save endangered species and get her shot.  I have been personally rung on the phone (literally while in a hot air balloon 9pm over the border of Finland and Russia about to jump to get to the other side since borders were closed in order to film wild bear.  Fortunately, for us 9pm is not complete darkness in the summertime there.  However, my first jump out of a balloon and yes I wondered what I was doing the whole time climbing over that wicker basket!  Passion rules my life.”

Amber’s art eventually became noticed by Nathan Turner (famous designer) where she was asked to participate in designing a project with him.

“I met Nathan Turner an interior designer that is on the Bravo network for the show ‘Million Dolllar Decorator’ through an interview process when I was decorating a past residence.  He saw all my prints around the house and asked me if they were for sale or how I acquired them.  I told him that I in fact took them and had just finished a show in Vienna, Austria.  The pieces he saw were just artist show pieces, which were not for sale.  I produced 5 of each piece sized 60×40.  The bigger the better is the attitude from most clients I deal with.  Nathan got my info nd contacted me a couple months later asking me two things; first, if I would be willing to do a room in the Greystone Mansion with him.  Second, if would I put my art in his store in NYC and on Melrose.  After meeting for tea at Urth Cafe on Melrose, I agreed to do both.  All three pieces sold out as soon as they hit the store with two women fighting over the last one.  I had to print on demand another for his customer and get it shipped to an address on Central Park West that day.  I decided to put three more pieces in his store again.  They all sold in the same month.  I chose to hold off on refilling the stock, because at the same time I had private clients contacting me from the articles printed up by Luxe Magazine.  Luxe featured me in each city almost 4 months in a row.  The 4th being just Los Angeles.  Luxe Magazine met me through the red carpet event when Greystone Mansion unveiled the most talented interior designers.  Nathan and I walked the red carpet together and he exclaimed I was his muse for his entire idea for the room after he saw my African series.  Ralph Lauren and I were the only contributing artists to his room, which was a famous room….the bowling ally and brandy room that was in the movie THERE WILL BE BLOOD, starring Daniel Day-Lewis.”

And that’s how she does it.  She makes moves with elegance, raw beauty and an adventurous soul.  She rides motorcycles, sky dives, passionate about photographing animals and is a top model above it all (she asked me not to discuss her junk food diet as many would be surprised, but she does like sushi).  Oh, I wasn’t joking about her swimming with sharks…

Cynthia C. Cavajal (goes by CCC) is not only a model educated in Behavioral Sciences, but an ocean activist.  As the founder of Ocean Lifeline (OLL) she is focused on being a “marine life ambassador” as she puts it.  What is OLL?  Here is a description taken from their website:

“Ocean Lifeline is a progressive not for profit organization consisting of a team of marine conservationists, film makers, underwater videographers, photographers and educators. Ocean Lifeline Inc. was awarded the gold seal of approval from the New York State Education Department. What makes OLL unique is our ability to communicate current ocean affairs through powerful imagery: projections, photography and video. The ocean’s lifeline is our lifeline. Protect the future!”

How did CCC begin with this cause from modeling?

Originally from a small mountain town in Colorado, Cynthia relocated to San Diego to be closer to the ocean after completing her degree in Behavioral Sciences. After 4 years working for a non-profit theatrical organization, Cynthia decided to shift gears and move to New York.  She traveled internationally as a performance artist and came full circle back to the oceans after a life changing experience swimming with wild dolphins in Key West, Florida. “Making eye contact with a dolphin swimming 4 feet away from me, shifted my awareness. I realized we can also coexist harmoniously with our environment.” After that moment, she realized that one of her life missions was to protect whales, dolphins and marine-life from human harm. This experience prompted the creation and vision for Ocean Lifeline. A few months later, Cynthia relocated to the big island of Hawaii to film dolphins, manta rays and the plastic beach. The production was supported by the organization, New York Women in Film and Television as the Fiscal Sponsor. “People living in big cities such as New York live a fast paced lifestyle” Cynthia says. “Many of us do not even encounter nature at all on some days. The OLL projections and videos remind us that we are still very much connected and a part of the oceans.”

“I had a life changing experience swimming with wild dolphins in Key West.  I decided to be a marine life ambassador after that experience because swimming with them is apparent that you are swimming with a self aware being.  Ocean Lifeline is a non-profit I started a few years ago.  The mission is to spread awareness on current ocean affairs such as sustainable seafood, recycling, dolphins in captivity and anti-shark finning.”

Although she is more or less part time now with modeling, deeply focussed on her Ocean Lifeline organization, the fashion world did impact her life.

“I am big fan of juicing.  There is an amazing juicing place by where I live and I go there everyday.  I love vegetarian sushi, salads, Thai food, stir fry veggies, Mediterranean food and veggie wraps.  My guilty pleasures that make me happy are nachos with guacamole, twice baked mac n’ cheese and caramelized creme brule.”

“I look at modeling more as something I do for work part time and a lot of people including my parents don’t even know that I have worked professionaly as a model.  My life is very non conventional.  The other way I make a living is by fire performing weekly.  I eat fire, spin poi, dance with fire fans and can even jump rope with fire.  My main passion in life is to protect the oceans and marine life from environment harm.”

“I am a big fan of Daft Punk and Adele and was so excited to be cast as the featured actress for the Daft Punk/Adele music video shot by Jason Ano.  This was by far one of the most challenging roles because I was underwater for so long.  Dancing and swimming underwater with my eyes open wearing a long chiffon dress.  What an experience!  What I love about the video is how it captures emotion and those intimate real moments alone thinking about a lost love.  I definitely would love to do an underwater shoot next summer!  As much as i love free diving in the oceans, shooting underwater is inspiring too.”

“Even though part time, what I love about modeling is working with some of the industry’s top photographers who some have become my close friends.  The aspect I love is how modeling can evoke an emotion or certain mood that can tell a story through an image.  What I don’t like about modeling is how at times on a job the model is treated more like an object without any emotions.  I have been picked apart during certain castings or jobs and you have to really have thick skin.  I think the best way to survive in the industry is just to not take what other people say seriously and treat it as business.“

While attending Oxford, Olivier began to work on other projects of his own and built an electronic music label Brif Records along with Julien Briffaz and Gaspard de Dreuzy. The label started to take off, they signed good artists, and Olivier decided to take a year off of school to develop the business.

One thing led to another, and he and Gaspard created Polygon Studio, a successful video game company. Polygon Studio worked with some of the biggest video game publishers (THQ, Atari, Mattel) and developed web based content for companies such as Disney, AOL, and The Learning Co. He worked on a concept for a video game with Mazerati.  Lapo Elkan was the head of Marketing for Mazerati at the time and they developed a lasting friendship. Currently, Mr. Elkan is an advisor of The Cools.

Olivier keeps an eye on the party police

Broke and devastated, Olivier moved to the countryside. Upon his return to Paris, he began to work in fashion as the head of licensing for Lolita Lempicka and promoted his friends’ events on the side for extra money. Olivier’s knack for curating events took over.  Olivier found himself running the places he promoted (Le Milliardaire, Regine’s).  He also began producing the events of Jardins de Bagatelle and Cirque Bonheur with Institut Bonheur (Institute of Happiness) that he created with his roomate Rasmus Michau. For six years, he ran his own public relations and event planning company, responsible for organizing some of the most memorable parties in Paris and creating corporate events for companies like Rolex, Diesel, YouTube, and more.

Rather than explain my definition of what the short film HIP PRIEST may be or is trying to portray, I am taking both writer’s words of the script verbatim.  I will say their summary and vision (since they are also producers and directors of the film) are powerfully artistic in an authentic, traditional or meaningful way.  A deep sense of realism and affinity for the characters or an understanding of emotions is achieved within the film for the characters the priest encounters.

Their Summary Below:

“At its core, our film project Hip Priest is a visceral and emotional exploration of the duality of man and the place for God in a sometimes dismal world. Our character, Priest, is a honest and enigmatic man, living by a personal code based in compassion and enlightment. He smokes, he drinks, he puts one foot in front of the other, everyday, day in and day out. The film will follow Priest, for a day in his life, in the neighborhood of East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where he glides along with a street handshake and dreams to hold tight. 

Originally inspired by the above photo, taken by photographer Paul McDonough in NYC circa 1968-1972, the film is set in present day Brooklyn. It will be filmed in black and white in a 2.40 aspect ratio with an ARRI Alexa camera, a Phantom high speed camera, steadicam, dolly, and Zeiss Master Primes.”

The star of the film is the overly charismatic Gerard McNamee, currently the Director of Operations and Curator at the legendary and world famous Webster Hall, which this year celebrates its 125th anniversary.  He also serves as the Curator and Executive Producer of “The QAS” @ Webster Hall, a launch pad event that features and introduces up and coming artists from all mediums.  In addition, Gerard owns and operates his own establishment called East Village Social, dedicated to Rock n’ Roll.

Olinda Borggren is from Stockholm, Sweden and currently resides in Southern Spain.  She quotes on her website;

“Things I love to do: Being naked, painting, taking pictures, travelling, using my body in weird and provocative ways, cooking and eating candy.”

She had my attention at being naked.  From then on I was interested in discovering more about this Swedish multi-tasking beauty.  She revealed some interesting paintings.  I thought she was an art dealer, but when she pointed out that she created them herself, I realized then she was not just a hot model, but a true artist.

I was impressed by her unfocussed positive energy or multi tasking in modeling, art and various other activities.  It seems that this unfocussed way of living gives her the drive or ambition she needs.  I personally like people who are unpredictable and exciting (provided they don’t bite).  I was interested in her one characteristic or skill that kept all of her activity bundled or sewn together.

“Strong intuition and good I am good at reading people.  At least I think so lol.  I am very natural and uninhibited.  I don’t care what other people think, I just do what I enjoy doing and I do it 100%.  My mother used to say, either you are completely crazy or you have balls of steel.  I think it is a combo.  Either you love me or you hate me, it has been like that my whole life.”

I asked Olinda what her inspiration is for composing her paintings:

“My inspiration comes from life in general, movies, books, relationships, people, photos and fashion.  I am an observer.  It is an interesting and colorful world and I paint what I feel and see.  You have both good and bad and you find the most basic human needs, like sex, religion, love, recognition, status, and excitement are all very interesting. Of course, my very close and intimate relationship with my fiancé, Patrick Castielle, has a major impact on my art too.”

Speaking of her future husband, I found it amazing that they actually met on television.

“Yes, we did meet in TV, but we choose to move away from that life.  I would love to be in a horror movie or a comedy.  I really like to be the topless slut that dies in the first scene.  Have you noticed it is always the slutty blond babe or the black guy that dies first, so unfair, because in real life we would be the ones surviving.  It has always been my dream running around naked covered in blood screaming my ass off, being chased by monsters.  I am a huge movie buff and a horror fan.”

I am certainly a fan of her running around topless.  Not sure if the blonde or the black guy would survive if monsters were chasing them but hey, it’s Hollywood.

Feeling sexy

Olinda further discusses her art:

“I have created all my art in my private studio on Costa Del Sol, Andalucia in the South of Spain in Picasso’s old regions.  I am in the process of finishing up my first major collection “Hard Ass Candy” in these weeks and I have sold one piece to a private art collector from Asia.  I am discussion with many different people, gallery owners, collectors and brokers from all over the world that are interested in representing or exhibiting my collection.  I am very flattered and surprised by the huge interest from all these different countries that want to either buy, collaborate, or host me in their galleries as some pieces are not even for sale at any price.  I am not a typical artist, coming from art school or a long line of famous painters.  USA, Scandinavia, France, parts of Asia are some of my first destinations.  I have not decided yet with who and where I will go.  My art is very personal and who I work with is a very important decision for me.  It must click and make sense and I do not want someone too pretentious and serious.  Life is fun and quirky with a serious undertone, so is my art.”

Spoken like a true artist.  She is carefree, elegant and serious overtones of happiness from life.  It is inspirational just hearing the words from her as she continues to make her way to even greater achievement.

I asked Olinda what she liked and disliked about modeling:

“I love traveling, meeting new people, wearing fabulous clothes and getting up to crazy shit.  I am a wild child after all.  Things I don’t like about modeling is how people that models like cattle and you must have thick skin because you are bound to be criticized by someone almost everyday.  Sometimes you encounter self absorbed, mega superficial and narcissistic people in the fashion industry, who can be almost impossible to work with.  Shooting winter clothes in the summer and lingerie in the winter can be a pain in the butt too.  I do not like castings. I am blessed with direct bookings only these days. Thank God.”

With overpowering looks that intimidate women 10 years younger, she was given genetics by her parents but maintains her good looks through diet and exercise.

“Ok, I am not a vegan, but maybe I should try it.  I love food, cooking food, painting food, reading cookbooks, watching cooking shows, trying new restaurants.  I like the variation of food and I think it is important to try everything once.  I tried some really crazy things in Asia, like blowfish for example and hey I survived.  It was not one of my favorite experiences.  I like to mix it up, vegetables, fruits, meat and fish.  You should not deny yourself too much and I do love my burgers and fries every now and then, ok let’s be honest, at least once a week.  I have a sweet tooth, as I do love candy, especially Swedish candy.  I am not a big drinker of alcohol, two glasses of wine and I am shit faced, so I avoid that lol.”

Two glasses of wine and she is shit faced.  A low tolerance for alcohol also means less intake and therefore less calories in the human body.  Perhaps this is just another bonus which helps to keep her looking fit and feeling creative.

“I have done a lot of commercial work, fashion editorials, men’s magazines, jeans and sporty stuff, but now I do mostly campaigns and lingerie.  I love provocative and sexy stuff, but it must be high fashion and remember I am not 16 anymore, now I am a dinosaur in the fashion world.  But strangely enough now I have more requests and direct bookings than ever before.  I have been blessed with great DNA, a fit body and good health.  That helps a lot.  AND I have a lot of personality.  I don’t look like I am going to die from malnourishment any time soon.  Hey thanks to all the celebs and famous 90′s top models.  It seems like the demand for this look is more than ever before.  I have faithful clients, lol.”

I asked Olinda to share something quirky about herself:

“I am very outspoken, opinionated, adventurous and I do love walking around in my house absolutely naked and do all my house chores in the nude, as it is freaking hot, like a 100 degrees always in the South of Spain.  I live in the now, and love trying new things, like a big kid.  I get bored easily and love asking many questions.  I am not a party person as I prefer friendly dinners and barbecues with friends.  My old pagan Viking roots, makes my love fishing, boats and nature, (not naked though).  I love the archipelago in the summer time.”

Full of energy, fun loving, and naturally sexy inside and out.  Olinda Berggren is one of kind and will stick in your mind if you have the opportunity to meet her.  Open and liberal with an old fashioned honesty that is lacking in society today, her energy is powerful and her message of life is clear and creative.

Ana Lisboa (Ana Luiza dos Reis Lisboa) comes from Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil and currently lives in New York.  She is represented by top modeling agencies Europe and the Americas while gracing magazine pages around the globe.  But how did this Brazilian supermodel get her start?

“When I was 15 years old i was invited to participate on a contest for models and actresses on a major Brazilian TV network.  After a few months of traveling around Brazil and appearing on the shows I came to New York where I started meeting clients and shooting for magazines.  I was the first model to get her very own page on Teen Vogue’s new face space.  The following year i did the shows for fashion week in New York, Sao Paulo, Paris and Milan.”

Traveling around Brazil at 15, appearing on Television, then whisked off to New York to further her level of success, quite impressive.  What makes a supermodel?  Most think simply “beauty”.  But for those producing products or who spearhead company advertisements and marketing strategies might say, beauty is the only component.  Most marketing teams I’m referring to are dealing with companies in fashion or apparel.  Ana’s beauty is part of this equation (ads, fashion, visuals).  Who know’s?  Maybe her face has inspired tens of thousands of consumers to stop, look at what she was wearing in the ad and think, I should get those because maybe I will look like that also.

“I have been featured in campaigns for Levi’s all over the world, which has been one of my favorites.  ESCADA, Make Up For Ever, Patricia Field and recently Natori.  Some of the magazines I have been featured in are; Italian Vogue, Brazilian Vogue, V Magazine, Glamour, Marie Claire, Allure… I recently worked with photographer Denis Piel, who’s shot the most legendary people ever!  Also worked with Nigel Barker, Ben Watts, Nicolas Moore, Dahlen, and others.”

Ana has worked with the top of the food chain in the fashion world or I should say, crème de la crème (since we are speaking in the vernacular of fashion).

Many models make the mistake of getting caught up in New York when they come to the city.  Out late, partying, getting to know the who’s who and who wants to be who crowd.  Often, they are the ones back on a plane to their respective homes or countries, having failed in the business by not taking it seriously.  It is a career, with dedication and a limited amount of time to make a good living, a mark of success.  Ana chooses to have fun but more effort is to her daily routine, strict diet and focussed on the career that is in front of her at the moment.

“I try and have a healthy diet with lots of greens, vegetables, grains, fruit and fish.  Drink lots of water and juices.  And I love coconut water, I drink it everyday.  I do crave fried food sometimes, and I really try to avoid that.  And I make a peach desert that nearly drives people crazy, but I save it for very special occasions.  I enjoy sparkling water with lemon squeeze.  And my coffee!   must in the morning before my day begins.  I exercise everyday.”

“I dont know what I would be doing had I never started modeling, because it has taken me places beyond my wildest dreams.  My plans for the future include an education in the arts (fine art and design) and I’m also driven to law.  I like philosophy, psychology and human behavior in general.  So I have a long way to fulfill every interest.  What I love most about modeling is being able to embrace and cherish my God given beauty, and be surrounded by talented people and art.  What I dislike most is that it requires a very strict nutritional regime and always being in the public eye.”

Featured in the public eye.  This also allows her to crossover into various social circles.  With her high profile status and strong communication abilities, she is a desired addition to every guestlist in New York.  Will she use this social status for charities or some humanitarian cause?  Too early to say as of yet.  For now, she is just another Above Average twenty something year old model working everyday (ok, her work is a bit more glamorous).
