Tower Cancer Research Foundation (TCRF) in Beverly Hills hosted the Tower of Hope Gala honoring Barbara Federman, Robert Decker, MD and Bruce Schulman who personify their mission of Hope, Healing and Humanity at the Beverly Hilton.  Their special guests were actors Mandy Patinkin (who hosted) and Ray Romano who perfromed a standup routine.

The evening progressed with a raffle to win a 2013 Mercedes Benz C250 Luxury Sedan from Mercedes Benz of Beverly Hills.  The lucky winner collected their RED HOT wheels a few days later.

The evening winded down with a stand up performance from famed actor/comedian Ray Romano who’s generosity spans numerous charities with time and funding.

About Tower Cancer Research Foundation

TCRF is a non-profit organization formed in 1996 that is dedicated to funding more effective treatments to prevent, treat, and to one day, cure cancer.  They support clinical trials which offer expanded treatment options to patients with limited alternatives.  In addition to our clinical research program, they support free patient support and education programs that works with the community suffering from the effects of cancer.

Tower Cancer Research Foundation also awards annual research grants to support physician scientists following careers in academic medicine focusing on a bench-to-bedside approach.  With the current shortage of federal funding, these funds are much needed to support the future of cancer research.  This year, TCRF is awarding three $100,000 research grants to distinguished PhD students in cancer studies at the Gala.

The Beverly Hills Tennis Invitational for 2013 finally wrapped up on the 19th of May.  Players from New York, Los Angeles and around the world flocked to sunny Southern California for tennis and networking.  The Pro-Am competition is more than just winning points but a major catalyst for socializing and kicking off summer earlier in Los Angeles before the rest of the country.  The tournament began in the beginning of May with summer festivities whilst the rest of the nation hinges on Labor Day to start the traditional summer fun.

Australian resident of New York City, Heinz Haas (Tennis Pro) gave a few words, “It’s a great time of the year in one of the most gorgeous places on the planet.  You can’t beat Los Angeles, there’s not a better place to play tennis and mingle with some of not only the most important people in California or the USA but the nicest.  I’ve literally played all over the world and every time I come to Los Angeles the conditions are absolutely perfect, always.”

Players, sponsors and spectators come together for the individual competitions throughout the week and celebrate on two separate weekends.  The final weekend celebration marking the end of the tournament was held at the estate of Beverly Hills resident Geoffrey Palmer.  The greater Los Angeles and Beverly Hills business community comes together supporting the event every year and also take the opportunity to network with players and various attendees.

The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence honors Piers Morgan with the Sarah Brady Visionary Award.  Laura Wasser was honored with the Brady Center Advocate Award at a gala dinner to support The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and the Administration’s campaign initiatives to end gun violence in America.  The event was held in the ballroom of the Beverly Hills Hotel.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence works to pass, enforce, and protect sensible laws and public policy that address gun violence at the federal and state level. The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence develops and implements extensive public health and safety programs to reduce gun violence.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Los Angeles will hoed its first annual “Evening of Dreams Gala” to honor business leaders and community activists who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to foster children on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel.  The event was hosted by actor Dax Shepard, star of the NBC drama Parenthood, and included international dining stations, wine tastings, auction, and a performance by the unique installation artist and musician, William Close and the Earth Harp Collective.  The evening also marked the presentation of the Bob Frandzel Memorial Award, Robert Morrison Community Service Award and the CASA Lifetime Achievement Award.  James M. Rishwain, Jr. Esq, Firm Chair of Pillsbury Winthrop, Shaw, Pittman, LLP. served was the Dinner Chair for the evening.

It’s not often an auction starts out by listing a one hundred dollar bill ($100) in the lot for sale.  The final price for the note, over $3,000 and all donated to charity.  The onset of the evening began with close to a million dollars already being raised.  We hope they ended up with over seven figures.

From Western Europe a beautiful German not only gives great face, but sex appeal in swimwear and lace.  Melanie Ribbe is half German and half Dutch but prefers the shores of America.  Having started modeling at 16 when she won a national modeling search competition in Jamaica, where she was raised.  That’s correct, she was raised in that famous cash crop island of JAMAICA.  Of course we are referencing coffee.  Today, the sky seems to be coming closer to her reach.

Based on the true story of Richard Leonard “The Iceman” Kuklinski.  Richard Kuklinski was an American who joined the mafia as a contract killer for financial support.  The 6’4″ (194 cm), 300 pound (135 kg) Kuklinski worked for Newark’s DeCavalcante crime family and New York City’s Five Families. He claimed to have murdered over 100, or possibly 250 men (his recollections varied) between 1948 and 1986. Mr. Kuklinski claimed to have committed his first murder at the age of 13.  He lived with his wife and children in the suburb of Dumont, New Jersey prior to his arrest.

The film stared Michael Shannon (Academy Award Nominee) as Richard Kuklinski.  Co-starring Academy Award® nominee Winona Ryder (Black Swan) and Chris Evans (Avengers, Captain America), The Iceman is directed by Ariel Vromen (Danika) from a script he wrote with Morgan Land (Rx).  Ray Liotta (Goodfellas), David Schwimmer (“Friends”), Robert Davi (“Profiler”) and Danny Abeckaser (Alpha Dog) round out the cast.  The film features cameo appearances by Stephen Dorff (Public Enemies) and James Franco (127 Hours).  The after-party was held at the Soho House New York.

Oscar-winner, Adrien Brody and Academy Award-winning “Precious” screenwriter-Geoffrey Fletcher both teamed up at ROOT DRIVE IN STUDIOS for a series of short films and a short actor’s improv.  The after-party was sponsored by Bombay Sapphire Brand Gin.  Both Hollywood notables performed briefly after the short films and lead a discussion panel whereby the audience participated.  The end of the night was filled guests sipping their glasses repeatedly thanks to Bombay Sapphire cocktails and even a bottle to go.
